Reliance, part of consortium, to design, build and operate four fire stations and training centres
BRISTOL, 11 July 2011 – Reliance has signed a 25-year contract worth £13.5M with the blue³ (Gloucestershire Fire) Ltd consortium to manage the FM Services at four fire stations which include training buildings plus a dedicated life skills centre that will be used to educate people about living safely.
The Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project is to be designed, built and operated by the Blue consortium, for the Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service. Reliance in association with organisations comprising Kier Project Investment Ltd and Carden Croft, will from the consortium, with the senior debt financed by Heleba. Once the buildings are complete, Reliance staff will provide facilities management services over the 25-year concession period including contract management, cleaning and waste management, grounds, lifecycle and estates Maintenance
The new fire stations and training centres, currently in the construction phase, by Kier Moss Ltd are located at four sites two in Gloucester and two in Cheltenham.These new stations will help Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service respond more quickly to incidents. The ground breaking life skills centres will provide a wide range of practical risk and consequence scenarios including road, rail, fire, electrical and water safety as well as other dangers in the home, including slips, trips, accidental poisoning and internet safety
Geoff Vinall, CEO, Reliance, said,” This contract will allow Reliance to collaborate with Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue to provide a faster and more efficient service to the community. The contract also builds on Reliance’s proven experience as a leading organisation involved in PFIs for police forces throughout the UK.”
Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, Gloucestershire County Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Youth, said,"I'm delighted to see work beginning on the new fire stations. When the project is complete, we will be able to get to more of those that need our help even faster and provide even more effective safety education.People of all ages will take away something of lasting value when they visit the life skills centre now known as “SkillZone”. It will provide visitors with the vital information and skills for life that they need to help keep them and their families safe.”
Reliance manages PFI buildings for the police and fire services with a total of seventeen buildings in operation and another five in construction.
