Reduce medical costs
Outsource timely and reliable detainee treatment
Many police forces have seen the costs of providing forensic examiner services including medical assessments and treatment to detainees escalate in recent years, yet it has also been increasingly difficult to secure a timely response from busy doctors. Reliance works with individual police forces to provide a timely, comprehensive, safe, and cost-effective solution based on trained teams of directly employed healthcare professionals working to agreed protocols within a robust, audited Clinical Governance framework.
Through the Sussex Police PFI contract, which started in 2002, Reliance was the first private company to demonstrate that trained and experienced nurses, working with specialist doctors could make a huge difference to the efficiency of the custody process, to the care and safety of detainees and staff in the custody setting. We now work with seven forces in over 40 custody suites examining over 60,000 people per year.
Reliance forensic examiner services encompass:
- Teams of trained, UK based, forensic health practitioners who can deal with all the health requirements of Codes C and H of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, in addition to staff, victim and detainee minor injuries
- Forensic examiners who are leaders in their field specialising in mental health, drugs, and sexual assault cases
- Integrated clinical teams, enabling trained forensic nurses to fully develop and utilise their skills, leading to safe detainee care and best value services
- The highest standards of Clinical Governance
- Forensic service modelling which provides individual police forces with a best value option, taking into account the geography of their custody centres
- A range of additional services including training of police custody staff, drug testing, and managing the relationship with the local health services.
Reliance Medical Services has a robust clinical governance framework guiding each of its health and care professionals. Our commitment to clinical risk management means that the safety and welfare of patients, detainees and staff are always at the centre of our services.
